INTO THE MOSH 116: FAT GIRL | DANIELLE AQUILINA | DARWIN FRINGE FESTIVAL

Words by Brooke Gibbs.

Danielle Aquilina’s debut solo show Fat Girl is like stepping back into a 12-year-old girl’s sleepover complete with popcorn, tunes, insecurity, and everything in between. But this time, you’re not just revisiting the past, you’re invited to sit with it, feel it, and maybe even rewrite it.

With raw vulnerability, Aquilina holds nothing back. Through a bold mix of slam poetry, movement, humour, and nudity, she crafts an intimate front-row experience that blurs the line between performance and personal reflection. It’s cathartic, confronting, and beautifully tender.

Fat Girl invites you to reflect on the words you’ve internalised, both your own and those spoken by others, and the lifelong imprints they leave behind. It’s a reclamation of self through art, and a reminder that healing can look like laughter, stillness, and a lot of sweatiness!!

If you’ve ever been left out of a sleepover, or left one in tears, this show offers the chance to make new memories. Don’t miss Fat Girl this Sunday. come for the popcorn, stay for the poetry.
