INTO THE MOSH 122: KI/KI 5 HOURS | GIG REVIEW
Words by Alexandra Tarraran.
West Footscrays, The Wool Store, was brought to life with Dutch DJ KI/KI lighting up the stage.
From the minute you stepped into the venue, the vivid strobe lights lit up the dark atmosphere, with Kiki’s set bouncing off the walls.
Her energetic mix of techno, trance, and acid beats got our hearts pumping and legs bouncing.
As we made our way up onto the platform behind the decks, I knew we were in for an incredible 5 hours.
Throughout the set, the crowd was taken on a journey together, swaying side to side with the pulsing beat. Her build ups eased us in, slowly introducing new layers of sounds over the initial beat until it all combined seamlessly to reach a drop.
The acid bassline rolled, with trance melodies weaving a hypnotic flow.
Just as the momentum built, Kiki stripped it back to the bassline and lyrics holding the room in suspense.
The adrenaline started pumping as the speed gradually accelerated before erupting into a pounding drop.
Her stage presence was magnetic, effortlessly blending tracks while sipping from a rotation of Coke No Sugar, Champagne, and the occasional shot. Bopping along to the beat drops, she radiated high energy, clearly enjoying every moment as much as the crowd.
Just when we thought the energy couldn’t get any higher, Hammer House The Jumper came on, and Kiki got us all down onto the floor, before jumping back up for the beat drop as lasers exploded across the venue.
After hours of acid trance, the iconic opening of Losing Control started pounding, spiking the audience’s adrenaline again.
The acid baseline pounded off the walls, with vocals and trance melodies that got our hearts racing with excitement.
Green lasers and white spotlights cut through the haze, zigzagging in every direction as the crowd erupted.
Being in the Wool Store was like entering another dimension, and somehow Kiki made 5 hours fly by.
As the set came to an end, we wanted it to keep going - 5 hours simply wasn’t enough. Next time, Kiki, we’re ready for a ten-hour marathon ;)
