Maggie Lindemann | Interview
Interview by Brooke Gibbs
FUTUREMAG MUSIC: We’re so excited to have you back in Australia. You first connected with Australian audiences back in 2023 — what stood out to you the most, and how does that shape your mindset coming back this year?
MAGGIE LINDEMANN: I’m just really excited to come back. That was actually the only time I’ve ever been to Australia, so I’m really looking forward to it. I’m not looking forward to the flight — but the last time I was there was so much fun, and the crowds were really good. I’m very excited.
FUTUREMAG MUSIC: Will you have much time to explore while you’re here, or is it pretty full-on with the tour schedule?
MAGGIE LINDEMANN: I’m pretty busy with the tour, but luckily I think we have days off in between each show, if I’m not wrong. So I’ll definitely be able to go out and do stuff on those days off, which I’m excited for.
FUTUREMAG MUSIC: This tour brings I Feel Everything to Australian stages for the first time. How do you envision these songs translating in a live setting?
MAGGIE LINDEMANN: I’ve already toured the album through the US and Europe, and performing these songs live has been such a different experience. Seeing people react in real time and having those fan interactions has been so good. Australia is going to have some of the biggest venues of the tour too, so I think it’s definitely going to be really fun.
FUTUREMAG MUSIC: Australian crowds are known for their energy and honesty. Do you approach your Australian shows differently compared to the US or Europe?
MAGGIE LINDEMANN: I think I go into every place the same, but every show feels different depending on the energy. If the crowd is louder or interacting more, it definitely plays a big role in my confidence and the overall vibe of the show. Those are always the shows that feel the most fun.
FUTUREMAG MUSIC: Touring often becomes its own emotional journey. What kind of personal or artistic headspace are you entering as you bring this run to Australia?
MAGGIE LINDEMANN: I’m in a really good headspace. The tour has been so good so far, and I’ve been having the best time performing these songs. Coming to Australia, I just feel ready to perform, have fun, and be back there again.
FUTUREMAG MUSIC: I Feel Everything feels both like a release and a reckoning. What emotional truths were hardest to confront while making the album?
MAGGIE LINDEMANN: In my personal life, I was having a hard time accepting how things were going. That became a really big theme on the album — accepting the things I couldn’t change. You can kind of hear it throughout the record too: the before, during, and after of everything I was going through. That acceptance was probably the hardest part of making the project.
FUTUREMAG MUSIC: There’s definitely a sense of growth and self-empowerment throughout the album. Was there a moment where you really felt that shift happen within yourself?
MAGGIE LINDEMANN: Yeah, definitely. In my personal life there was a huge shift, and I think you can hear it in the music too. The songs went from being really sad to a little more angry — and honestly, I felt like I was getting myself back again.
FUTUREMAG MUSIC: As someone touring publicly while processing such personal experiences, how do you balance vulnerability with self-protection?
MAGGIE LINDEMANN: I think it’s all about having good people around you. This has honestly been my most fun tour yet because I’ve had my friends with me. The people I’m touring with are such a vibe, and my bass player is one of my best friends. Having people around who actually know me beyond just work completely changes the dynamic. It’s made the whole experience so much more enjoyable.
FUTUREMAG MUSIC: Returning to Australia now, how would you describe the way your stage presence has evolved since the last time we saw you?
MAGGIE LINDEMANN: It’s definitely changed. The biggest thing is my confidence — I feel so much more confident on stage, in my vocals, and in the way I perform overall. Fans have actually been telling me that too, that they can really see the growth in my performances and confidence. So I definitely think the overall show is going to be even better this time.
FUTUREMAG MUSIC: What do you feel has helped you build that confidence?
MAGGIE LINDEMANN: I think getting out of situations that drained my confidence was the main thing. Over the past year, since my last tour, I’ve really gained a sense of self again. I feel like I found myself after losing myself for so many years, and I think that naturally shows now.
FUTUREMAG MUSIC: What do you hope Australian fans take away after seeing this tour?
MAGGIE LINDEMANN: I hope they just have so much fun and want to invite me back. I also hope people feel a sense of belonging. A lot of people come to my shows solo and end up meeting friends there — I hear those stories all the time during meet-and-greets. I think that’s really special.
FUTUREMAG MUSIC: If I Feel Everything represents a new chapter, what kinds of sounds or ideas do you feel yourself gravitating toward next?
MAGGIE LINDEMANN: I’m still figuring that out, but I’m definitely in a way happier headspace now. Whatever comes next probably won’t be so sad. I definitely want to make more fun music and more fun songs.
FUTUREMAG MUSIC: Lastly, what does “feeling everything” mean to you now — and has that definition changed since writing the album?
MAGGIE LINDEMANN: Yeah, definitely. At the time, I was going through so many emotions all at once, and I Feel Everything felt very tied to sadness. Now I’m a lot more level-headed. I don’t feel like my emotions are as out of control anymore. So now it feels more like strength than sadness, which is a really different feeling.
FUTUREMAG MUSIC: Before we wrap up, is there anything else you’d like your Australian fans to know about the tour or the album?
MAGGIE LINDEMANN: I’m just really excited to come back to Australia. It’s going to be a really fun tour.
