Friday the 26th of March marked my first live show back since the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020. Bloom at the Lord Gladstone, hosted rising electronic extraordinaire, Taka Perry.

I’m somewhat lost when writing about my experiences of returning to live music… As I write this, a year of stirred anticipation for performances is being expelled, as a confused concoction of elation and overwhelmed energy surges. Taka Perry has opened the floodgates, and I couldn’t be more thankful to have him as my guide ushering me back into the world of live entertainment.

Although a predominately instrumental set, Taka Perry imbued highly dynamic elements throughout. From the use of glistening guitar over his sample rich production to the implementation of radiant lighting sprinkled throughout, the blossoming act transcended expectations. Oscillating between released records ‘Introspect’, ‘Diamonds’ and ‘Only U’, with yet to be seen singles, the set’s momentum was deliberate and expertly executed. With the crowd at a high, Taka Perry invited guest vocalist Stevan to the stage to perform their breakout single ‘Twenty’. Together, the pair sent waves through The Lord Gladstone’s upper level as the room shook with euphoric euphony. This amalgamation of audience vigour, adept artistry and a longing for live music was the catalyst of my own fervour that I’m still experiencing a couple of days later. This prolonged exuberance leaves me craving more!

Taka Perry is a master of his craft and I’m beyond excited to hear what’s to come from the ascending act!
